Much Abrew: Blade of the Bloodchief Combo (Modern)
Hello everyone, and welcome to another edition of Much Abrew About Nothing! Today, we're heading to Modern to check out a sweet new combo: Blade of the Bloodchief Combo! Hilariously, Blade of the Bloodchief itself has existed in Modern since the format's birth, but it's never really been a playable card. However, this might be changing thanks to Modern Horizons 3, which happened to give us the perfect combo piece for Blade of the Bloodchief in Basking Broodscale! If we can get Blade on Broodscale and then have a creature die (or have enough mana to pay Basking Broodscale's adapt cost), we'll start an infinite loop. Basking Broodscale will make an Eldrazi Spawn that we can sacrifice for a mana, which will trigger Blade of the Bloodchief to put a counter on Basking Broodscale. This will make another Eldrazi Spawn to start the loop over again, giving us infinite mana, infinite enters and dies triggers, and an infinitely big Basking Broodscale! Toss in something like Glaring Fleshraker or Walking Ballista to get our opponent's life total to zero, and with our best draws, we can combo off as early as Turn 3! Is Blade of the Bloodchief actually Modern playable? How good is the combo? Let's jump into a Modern league and find out on today's Much Abrew!
