Magic Online Treasure Chests, Payout Changes, Redemption

Wizards has announced several upcoming changes to Magic Online. Here's a summary of the changes; we'll have our analysis in an upcoming article.

Treasure Chests

Magic Online Treasure Chest

Treasure chests are a new prize that you can earn on Magic Online. Inside, you'll find some cards distributed at random: Standard-legal commons or uncommons, curated cards (like the upcoming Kaladesh Inventions), Modern rares or mythics, or play points. You can find the list of curated cards and probabilities of each prize here.

Treasure chests can be earned by competing in Constructed leagues or events. Here's the updated payout of various events with Treasure chests.

Redemption

In addition to Treasure Chests, the Magic Online redemption program has been significantly altered. Starting with Kaladesh, Kaladesh redemption will begin 30 days after the release of Kaladesh, up until the start of redemption for the next block (Amonkhet in this case). This period is significantly shorter than the old timeline, which guaranteed redemption for the Standard lifetime of each set, with a cut-off date of about one year after rotation. This means the redemption period will be reduced from approximately 2.5 years down to 6 months.
