Historic 101: Disco Inferno
Since the spoiler of Tinybones, Trinket Thief, I've been wanting to play a discard style deck and I think we might finally have enough pieces if we ignore that there isn't Ensnaring Bridge. Normally I'm used to seeing discard decks in Mono Black but I wanted to see if we could add red because that gives us a little more burn!
Gameplan
As mentioned before, we are still playing the discard game plan but since Historic is lacking The Rack effects outside of Davriel, Rogue Shadowmage, we needed ways to add a little more reach. Adding red gives access to these:
These three will give us the additional reach that we need while also giving us solid threats. Kroxa, Titan of Death's Hunger gives us a recursive threat and a powerful way to force opponents to discard. We also get to deal three damage which makes up for the lack of burn and really helps us get closer to lethal range with Tinybones. Another card that is sweet is Carnival // Carnage because the mono black variant of the discard deck lacked solid, cheap removal. With Skirk Prospector and tons of one toughness creatures in Historic, this card is great to deal with the early cards, while having that additional three damage and discard for two! Lastly, the firing and steal'n Angrath, the Flame-Chained! Being able to add more burn and the -3 that gives us a Slave of Bolas effect is more than welcomed! It feels great stealing a Hydroid Krasis or an Uro, Titan of Nature's Wrath.
Conclusion
With how much discard enablers in Historic, we just need something along the lines of an Ensnaring Bridge or Plague Engineer and we can definitely fight off the aggro decks. Unfortunately, the deck still struggles with how aggressive the format is but it is a lot of fun, and you can definitely win against aggro. The other thing to keep in mind is Tamiyo, Collector of Tales. The deck gets absolutely shut off by that card so if you're up against a UGx deck. Be prepared for Tamiyo and definitely have a plan for her.
Thanks for watching and make sure to tune into my stream as I will be working on a ton of historic lists and am always looking for input.
