Gameplan

With Alchemy open for us to play, the first thing I had to do on week 1 was figure out what control decks were viable. Alchemy actually boosted control a ton with a grip of new inclusions!

Absorb Energy is a card I wanted to try out as it seems great in a control mirror as it has the chance to make our clunky instants a bit cheaper! I'm not really sure its a strict upgrade over something like Divide by Zero or Saw It Coming but it is worth a shot. The card I do think is the truth is Discover the Formula. This card is perfectly balanced as it is six mana but if you get to cast this, it pulls you so far ahead. It honestly feels like the most powerful spell in our deck at times. If you're in blue, this card has to be included in some capacity.

The other inclusion is Key to the Archive. The card's draft ability is usually relevant for a control deck as almost everything that appears is some form of removal. The worst spell we could probably get is Claim the Firstborn. One of fifteen cards is perfectly fine when you have the chance to add Counterspell or Approach of the Second Sun! The card allows us to even get a win condition! I do believe that the card is a bit clunky and comes down at a crucial point of a game so I don't know if I want four copies but two to three copies is perfect. It also pairs nicely with Teferi, Who Slows the Sunset

Conclusion

The deck got a few new toys to play with and Alchemy has been a pretty fun experience so far. A card I've found a bit too cute was Sigardian Evangel which I was planning to bring in against control and random decks where I need a clock as it's a great mana sink that can give us a massive board pretty quickly. However, I've often felt that the card was never needed so that could probably be dropped from the list.

Thanks for watching and supporting the content!
