Flinging Nukes With Purphoros, Bronze-Blooded | $125| Commander Abridged Gameplay | Mono Red Stompy
This week we're getting aggressive with one of my favorite budget brews: $125 Purphoros, Bronze-Blooded.
Purphoros, Bronze-Blooded is an explosive Mono Red Stompy deck. The idea is to get Purphoros on to the battlefield, then use his ability to sneak into play huge bombtastic creatures for just three mana, flinging them at our opponents' faces for insane value. Our huge chonkers fulfill any role we need, acting as removal with cards like Drakuseth, Maw of Flames, Meteor Golem, and Ryusei, the Falling Star, generating mana with Neheb, Dreadhorde Champion, Neheb, the Eternal, and Rapacious One, drawing us cards with Dragon Mage, Sandstone Oracle, and Etali, Primal Storm, or just plain ol' killing our opponents with Terror of Mount Velus, Molten Primordial, and Moraug, Fury of Akoum.
We can even get around the drawback of sacrificing creatures snuck in with Purphoros by stopping the trigger with Sundial of the Infinite, blinking the creature before its sacrificed with Conjurer's Closet, or getting them back when they die with Cauldron of Souls.
The combination of being hard to remove thanks to indestructible and letting us cheat out enormous beatsticks for huge mana discounts makes Purphoros an incredibly powerful commander that your opponents will rightfully fear and respect, even on a budget restriction like this one. The Purphoros player is often the archenemy for this reason, but win or lose, this deck pulls off some epic turns.
