Fish Five-0: Umori's Mutants (Standard)

Gameplan

We've heard a lot about Lurrus and Yorion for companions but I decided I wanted to explore a few other companions that deserve some attention! This lead to Umori, the Collector

With Umori out, all of our creatures will cost 1 less to play and on top of that, we have some help with Pollywog Symbiote! This means a lot of our big creatures will come down for potentially two less! At the end of the day, we're a midrange deck that will just be playing big giant bodies so that makes the reduction pretty helpful. Ontop of that, Pollywog Symbiote will allow us to loot through our deck whenever we cast a creature with Mutate. None of our creatures are human so we won't be stuck with any Mutate cards in hand barring mana issues!

The deck really does rely on its early game threats as I look at this deck more like a midrange equipment/enchantress deck.

The deck's early threats will allow us to get our engines going early if we can go one drop into a Sea-Dasher Octopus or even a Gemrazer to apply pressure. Because of this importance, it's entirely acceptable to just play a small 1/1 Stonecoil Serpent. It's also why I added an additional one drop in Zagoth Mamba which could be taxing on our mana but I feel the upside may be worth it. 

Although we're an entirely creature based deck, I went ahead and added creatures to still help us interact with our opponents

Just because we have no spells doesn't mean we can't slightly tempo and control our opponent's game plan just long enough to get the win. I'm not entirely sure if we can afford to play Frilled Mystic in the main deck as that feels like something we want after game one to determine if we can wait that long. Also, it's great that our deck doesn't get hit by Duress hehe. 

Now you would think with our tiny little creatures we don't have a late-game but we sort of do!

Here are our late-game bombs. Auspicious Starrix is actually better than it looks as I thought the card was kind of a joke but it actually feels quite powerful in this shell. Especially with all the mutating that goes on. Of course, we also have all of our other power house Mythic Mutants. I like the singleton Brokkos, Apex of Forever as a constant way to mutate onto something but just remember to be mindful of Agent of Treacher as the late game is dominated by that card and they could easily just steal our stack of creatures. In the event that we've been board wiped or our stack of creatures is removed, we have Nethroi, Apex of Death to bring 10 power's worth of bodies back to the field!

Conclusion

The deck is very fair when it comes to terms with where standard is right now but even with a deck this fair, we managed to scrape out a 4-2 run with the deck. All of our matches will require a ton of work for your victories but when you get your stack of mutations going, it's so much fun. Also, I really like Bonders' Enclave but the way it disrupts our manabase is way too much of a downside so I would probably remove all of them or play one copy at most! Maybe there's more room for a Mutate deck with spells but I had to give an Umori variant a try. The deck isn't tier one but your inner Timmy will be pleased that you played this list.
