Fish Five-0: Hero of Naya (Standard)

Did Naya get a tricycle land? Nope. However, the deck did get some sweet cards that are multicolored which led me down the path of everyone's favorite multicolor payoff, Hero of Precinct One

As you remember from a few metas ago, Hero of Precinct One decks were everywhere but in the blink of an eye, they disappeared. Well, I've been on a quest to find a Hero deck for standard and I'm starting with a few Hero variants that weren't popular. Why Naya over Savai Humans? I think green just has things we need right now to fight a few decks in the meta.

Are these two cards new? Nope, but they are very good for what's running around in the meta. With the amount of Fires of Invention, Wilderness Reclamation, and other problematic artifacts and enchantments, this card should see more play in the main deck of any deck that can afford to play it. The modes it has is also quite relevant and the fact that it's multicolored and non-human gives it more value as we can trigger Hero or Mutate onto it with Snapdax, Apex of the Hunt.  There's also Trostani Discordant which isn't doing anything flashy but it does put bodies out whenever it enters the battlefield. With the uptick in Fires and Jeskai deck, expect to see Teferi, Time Raveler. If that's the case, we want to have things that do something upon hitting the board. It also helps with a card I've been having problems with... Agent of Treachery. Now, it doesn't stop Agent from stealing your lands but it makes it so your creatures will come home to you!

Snapdax, Apex of the Hunt has been a pet card for me and I've found myself throwing it into decks just because I love the idea of a Dinosaur Cat. It also gives double strike while being multicolored so it does actually play well with our deck. It may not mutate onto our humans but we play plenty of non-Humans for this to be playable. Another card I've wanted to try was Lukka, Coppercoat Outcast. Since we're in the Naya colors, we don't have the best ways to draw cards and that's where Lukka enters. That +1 seems just powerful enough to play as a fair midrange card advantage machine. What's better is the cards in exile only care that you own a Lukka planeswalker so that seems quite solid.  The -2 on Lukka isn't bad either when we've got tons of tokens and other threats to exile and upgrade into a potentially bigger threat.

The deck concluded our run with a 3-2 record but the issues with the deck were obvious. We need to be doing even more powerful things or having better answers. Naya, unfortunately, lacks that. However, Knight of Autumn is the truth in this meta. Trostani Discordant is another sweet card that I think can see play with one or two copies. The jury is still out on Lukka, Coppercoat Outcast as we never drew him or the game we did, we couldn't cast him. Maybe Lukka still has a home but we'll have to keep digging to find out. Maybe the reason I want Lukka to work is that I just dyed my hair grey and we now have the same haircut? Who knows? I do think there are a few cards I want to jam and maybe the Hero of Precinct One deck we're looking for is in Indatha(Abzan) as we'll have access to Mythos of Nethroi, Chevill, Bane of Monsters, and Fiend Artisan.
