Crimmander Deck Techs: Anowon, the Ruin Thief


First off, welcome to my first Commander deck tech! I figured I'd start off with my most recent deck and that would be Rogues! Don't worry though, I'll be doing mixtures of my paper decks and deck techs on cool decks that are submitted to me or decks I see online! Of course, this will be the series where I'll be dropping tons of deck techs on all of my themed decks (e.g. Resident Evil Commander Deck)! When it comes to the themed decks, I'll go in depth on my references. At the very least, you can watch me find new ways to justify Mana Drain #11 Showcase

A lot of people are asking for my Anowon, the Ruin Thief #1 Foil decklist so here it is with an in-depth look at the deck!

Some cards that I didn't have in paper at the time of filming that I wanted to add to the deck were Mesmeric Orb #31 Retro and Sun Quan, Lord of Wu #123 as I think those would definitely help with milling and getting more evasion... unless you get paired against the one player who came prepared with a Horsemanship deck.

Luckily, Mesmeric Orb #31 Retro got reprinted and is now under $10 so it's not at the price it once was. Unfortunately, there aren't many budget replacements for this exact ability. If you're looking for a replacement to the Orb, you can always just play more things that help mill. Sun Quan, Lord of Wu #123 is a bit pricey if you're not able to grab the FTV printing and currently sits around $30+ so if you want a replacement for this, I'd recommend Deepchannel Mentor #35. Unfortunately, it is a 6 mana 2/2 but it does make all your blue creatures unblockable and that is just as good!

As a fan of constantly changing my EDH decks, I like keeping a certain set of cards on rotation. Example, some cards I think could be pretty fun to keep nearby are cards with Cipher and more Prowl cards!

The cipher cards are definitely lower in power but a lot of fun if you feel your rogue deck needs to be power down. Oh and one last recommendation is Night Dealings #132! The card is a fun forgotten gem from the Kamigawa block! When we're loaded with a decent amount of evasion, we can tutor up all the things! Best part is the card costs less than $5!
