Commander Clash S4 Episode 9: Commander VS Crossover! (Grenzo vs Ishkanah vs Samut vs The Locust God)

Hello and welcome to Commander Clash, a video series where several MTGGoldfish contributors battle in a four player Commander game for fun and bragging rights. Wondering why this article is going up on Wednesday instead of the usual Saturday? Well, I'm excited to reveal that this week is a crossover collaboration with the fine folks from the Commander VS series and we're putting our videos up at the same time! For those of you that somehow don't know about them, Commander VS is a long-running Commander gaming series over at Star City Games. It's an excellent show that was a major inspiration for starting our own series, so if you somehow managed to find this show without ever checking out theirs, I highly recommend checking them out now

For this crossover, each of us were paired with someone on the other show and we made a deck for the other person to play based on their preferred playstyles. So all the decks we're playing in this episode was made for us by someone from Commander VS and vice versa for their episode. Let's see what we've got!

  • Tom gets aggressive and proactive, leading a Warrior Tribal deck to glorious conquest with Samut, Voice of Dissent (built by Stephen Green)
  • Jennifer runs a very unique "Reanimator" deck, cheating huge threats from the bottom of her library with Grenzo, Dungeon Warden (built by Justin Parnell)
  • Richard swarms the board with an extra janky Spider Tribal deck spawned by Ishkanah, Grafwidow (built by Jonathan Suarez)
  • Tomer draws cards all day every day and is actually rewarded for doing so thanks to the army of little nibblers generated by The Locust God (built by Jeremy Noell)

Looks like the Commander VS crew nailed our preferred playstyles with this one! Be sure to watch the Commander VS episode as well to see them play the decks we sent them! And as usual, another quick reminder: if you like Commander Clash and other video content here on MTGGoldfish, make sure to subscribe to the MTGGoldfish Youtube Channel to keep up with the latest and greatest.

Post-Game Thoughts

The game was sweet: everyone got to do something cool and then it ended in a spectacular fashion. What more could you ask for? Thank you to Jeremy Noell, Jonathan Suarez, Justin Parnell, and Stephen Green for the decks! Now that you've watched our game, head over to Commander VS and check out the decks we made for them! I noticed near the deadline the submissions were more powerful than our usual fare, so I sent Jeremy my Edric, Spymaster of Trest list; if I'm not allowed to play Edric, then watching Jeremy play it is the next best thing! Go get 'em!

Next Week: $20 C17 Upgrades

With each new Commander product released, I write articles analyzing the precons and show how to start upgrading them with just $20. Since Commander 2017 finally arrived on MTGO and I finally got around to finish this year's articles, we decided it would be a good opportunity to take the precons out for another spin with the $20 upgrades. Let's see which deck benefits the most from a limited budget upgrade!
