Commander Clash S4 Episode 3: Halloween Special!

Hello and welcome to Commander Clash, a video series where several MTGGoldfish contributors battle in a four player Commander game for fun and bragging rights. Halloween is right around the corner so we've brewed some extra spooky decks to celebrate the holiday! Here's what we've got:

  • Tom plays a Horror Movie deck with an astounding amount of movie references led by the The Swamp Thing, Sol'kanar the Swamp King
  • Jennifer runs a Death Tribal deck where nearly every card name mentions or references Death, appropriately led by Erebos, God of the Dead
  • Seth makes a guest appearance, running a Spooky Specter Tribal deck championed by an honorary Specter, Crosis, the Purger
  • Tomer calls to the underworld for assistance, summoning a Spirit Tribal deck led by Karador, Ghost Chieftain

Ghastly Ghosts, Spooky Specters, Horror Movie Villains, and Death itself have come to battle! What fiendish deck will emerge the victor? Let's find out! But first, a quick reminder: if you like Commander Clash and other video content here on MTGGoldfish, make sure to subscribe to the MTGGoldfish Youtube Channel to keep up with the latest and greatest.

Post-Game Thoughts

I was most impressed with Tom's deck this week: there's a mind-boggling amount of movie references in that list! I'd recommend clicking on his deck and checking out his list of references in the deck description.

It sucked that Jennifer got knocked out so early. It sounded like mana flood led her to be Greedier than normal and that ended up being her downfall.

My deck performed better than expected: it seems like Spirit Tribal can be a legit deck! There's some great payoff cards like Loam Dweller and Elder Pine of Jukai that can go nuts in this deck. I think Karador, Ghost Chieftain is the best option for Spirits: I flirted with a Brago, King Eternal list as well, but there aren't a ton of good Spirits with ETB triggers and it ended up being more of a mediocre Arcane deck. Perhaps O-Kagachi, Vengeful Kami may prove to be the best Spirit commander, but I doubt it; I had more than enough Spirits to work with in Karador's three colors and I think Karador offers more to the deck than O-Kagachi does unfortunately.

Next Week: Standard Commander!

Ixalan's arrival has created a new Standard format, and that means it's time to do another Standard Commander! With Shadows over Innistrad gone and Ixalan taking its place, how will our Standard Commander decks change? Find out next week! As always, we love to hear from you guys! Tell us what you like to see, what you don't like, any ideas that we can put forward for future videos, or anything else you'd like to tell us! You can reach us in the comments section below, email me at tomer@mtggoldfish.com, or tweet me @BudgetCommander.
