Commander Clash 26: Elder Dragons
Hello and welcome to Commander Clash, a video series where several MTGGoldfish contributors battle in a four player Commander game for fun and bragging rights. This week we'll be paying homage to the Commander format's origins by building decks around the original elder dragon commanders that gave the format its original name, Elder Dragon Highlander. Let's see what we've got:
- Seth makes his artifact deck shiny and chrome with the help of Chromium
- Richard takes the role of an evil mastermind, using his opponents' own cards against them with Nicol Bolas
- Jake builds a wall and makes his opponents pay for it, led by Arcades Sabboth
- Tomer gives his opponents token armies to beat themselves with, led by Palladia-Mors
Nicol Bolas may have won the Dragon War in the lore, but who will emerge victorious in this rematch? Let's find out! But first, a quick reminder: if you like Commander Clash and other video content here on MTGGoldfish, make sure to subscribe to the MTGGoldfish Youtube Channel to keep up with the latest and greatest.

Post-Game Thoughts
- I've never seen the proliferate mechanic heavily used in Commander, but Seth made it look sweet! Using Thrummingbird to up the counters on Astral Cornucopia and Ring of Three Wishes was cool. Richard appreciated it too!
- On that note, Hellkite Tyrant is such a blowout. Wow.
- I'll have to give the Vorthos win to Richard; stealing your opponent's stuff and killing them with it is very much Nicol Bolas' style!
- I've also never seen a defender deck done in Commander outside of Doran, the Siege Tower, and Jake's deck was awesome and unique. Wall of Reverence + Assault Formation + Finest Hour = ouch. He may have gotten more hate than he deserved this game, but Seth was just looking for an excuse to draw cards off Dismantling Blow.
- I cheated a bit: my deck was just my Gahiji, Honored One deck that I wrote about in a Budget Commander. The deck is very political and super sweet; if you like what you saw, check out the article about it!
Next Week: Competitive Commander!
You guys have requested it many times, and now we finally deliver: we're doing Competitive Commander next week! We're taking off our casual gloves and slugging it out with some of the most competitive deck lists we can find. With broken cards like Gaea's Cradle and Mana Drain being the norm, the price of our decks increase from ~20tix to ~500tix! So buckle up for some high-powered insane matches!
As always, we encourage you to leave us a comment on this article, on YouTube, or on Twitter @BudgetCommander. Your feedback is greatly appreciated, be it thoughts on the game, ideas on how to improve the series, or suggestions for future themes; we read all of them and bring them up in discussions. Thanks for watching!
