Commander Clash 18: Shadows over Innistrad Commanders
Hello and welcome to another Commander Clash, a video series where several MTGGoldfish contributors battle in a four player Commander game for fun and bragging rights. Each week we pick a theme and then build decks around that theme. This episode we'll be investigating the new Shadows over Innistrad commanders at see what spicy new brews they enable. Here's what we've got:
- Jake builds a value engine by sacrificing lands and filling up graveyards with The Gitrog Monster.
- Seth swarms the board with an unstoppable token army led by Sigarda, Heron's Grace.
- Richard goes deep with tribal vampires with Olivia, Mobilized for War.
- Tomer tries his hand at Boros Control, wiping the board of creatures and lands with Archangel Avacyn.
I was very excited for this week since I finally got to test out Archangel Avacyn (see Budget Commander: Avacyn) with the crew! Let's see how it goes. But first, a quick reminder: if you like Commander Clash and other video content here on MTGGoldfish, make sure to subscribe to the MTGGoldfish Youtube Channel to keep up with the latest and greatest.
Jake's Deck (Gitrog)
Seth's Deck (Sigarda)
Richard's Deck (Olivia)
Tomer's Deck (Avacyn)
I think the game turned out well! Each of us ended up being the archenemy of the table at some point off some big power plays, and we got a good impression of what each deck does. If only I properly used Martyr's Cause! Ah well, at least I'll know better for future games with Archangel Avacyn.
I'd also love to hear what your thoughts are about the mass land destruction this game, and in Commander in general: do you look down upon it? Which ones are okay in your group, if any? Let me know in the comments below or send me a tweet @BudgetCommander.
Next Week: Shadows over Innistrad Themes!
We're jumping back into Shadows Over Innistrad next week, this time focusing on the themes and mechanics of the set. I am super excited to be playing a Tribal Human / Clues deck; I have been in love with the investigate mechanic ever since it was spoiled and can't wait to see what sweet synergies are out there with them! As always, your feedback is greatly appreciated, be it thoughts on the game, ideas on how to improve the series, or suggestions for future themes; we read all of them and bring them up in discussions. Thanks for watching!
