Budget Arena: Bant Defenders (Standard, Magic Arena)

Ravnica Allegiance has hit MTG: Arena so I'm beyond excited to show you some sweet new decks. As you know on Budget Arena we try to trim as many rare and mythic wildcards as possible so we don't care about cards that you get from the start. We're excluding Glacial Fortress, Hinterland Harbor, and Sunpetal Grove from the rare count. This means we're using a combined 14 mythics and rares.

This week we'll be playing Bant Defenders!

The game plan is quite simple. We're going to play as many walls as we can so we can build a fortress to protect ourselves until we hit one of our enablers High Alert or Arcades, the Strategist and then we swing.

We do have some sweet interactions in the deck like using Dive Down as this is a pump spell that gives +3/+3 and Hexproof if Arcades or High Alert is out on the battlefield. We really want to try to protect Arcades as much as possible as it'll draw us a ton of cards.

The deck does have some sweet tools in Slaughter the Strong as none of our creatures have attack power except for Arcades, Shalai, Voice of Plenty, and Deputy of Detention. So this means you can pick every one of your walls and your attack power would still be a total of four! It's also extremely nice to have Shalai in the deck as she will give us protection from Settle the Wreckage and is another hoop people will have to jump through to remove an Arcades, the Strategist. Shalai also protects our face from burn spells which will be extremely relavent as Skewer the Critics has boosted the  amount of burn decks you'll see.

Conclusion

The deck was a lot of fun to play and it's always nice to play sweet brews in the first few weeks of a new set. I wouldn't recommend you craft this deck if you're looking for a tier 1 deck to win with but if you've got the wildcards laying around, and appreciate the meme life like I do, then I'd check it out!

See you at the next one!

Brewer's Kitchen assembles a lock that entirely stops his opponents from playing the game.

Single Scoop: Aerith Joins Soul Sisters

Soul Sisters is a beloved archetype by many and thanks to Aerith, this deck is loaded with Ajani's Pridemate effects. Hopefully, she can outlast Standard better than she did with Sephiroth.
