Announcement Day: Guilds of Ravnica and More!
It's spring announcement day which means Wizards just filled us in on a bunch of upcoming products. What do the next months of Magic have in store?
- Starting this fall we'll be return to the plane of Ravnica for three sets. On October 5th we'll get Guilds of Ravnica focusing on the Boros, Golgari, Izzet, Dimir and Selesnya guilds. Then in January of 2019 Ravnica Allegiance will release highlighting the Azorius, Rakdos, Orzhov, Simic and Gruul guilds. A third, yet unnamed set will follow (likely in the Spring of 2019). Along with featuring one of Magic's most iconic planes, the series of Ravnica sets promises to wrap up the Gatewatch storyline that has been a running since Battle for Zendikar.
- Along with the new Ravnica sets Wizards is releasing Guild Kits, a new preconstructed product featuring a 60 card deck for each Ravnica guild. The product will include guild cards from all three Ravnica blocks. The first group of five will feature the guilds from Guilds of Ravnica and releases November 2nd with the second group releasing in February featuring the guilds from Ravnica Allegiance.
- Previews for Battlebond, the new Two-Headed Giant focused set, start on May 22 and the set releases June 8th. Toothy, Imaginary Friend and Pir, Imaginative Rascal show off the return of the partner mechanic, with a twist!
- The first Global Series decks, essentially Chinese Planeswalker Decks, release on June 22. It will be printed in both English and Simplified Chinese featuring the new planeswalkers Mu Yanling and Jiang Yanggu. The cards from the set will be legal in Legacy, Vintage, and Commander everywhere, but only Standard-legal in China.
- Wizards will continue to release mechanically unique buy-a-box promos (like Firesong and Sunspeaker) with each set for the foreseeable future.
