Adventures in the Forgotten Realms Removal List


This is a list of all the removal in Adventures in the Forgotten Realms, divided into permanent creature removal, temporary creature removal (such as bounce, tap, and falter effects), non-creature removal, and off-battlefield removal (hand, stack, and graveyard).

  • Manticore #113 and True Polymorph #80  are listed under Permanent Creature Removal even though they don't kill anything on their own since they can often be played after combat to kill a creature that has attacked or blocked. Eccentric Apprentice #57 and Green Dragon #186 are not listed in that category since their effect is known before combat, so your opponent can play around them.
  • Acererak the Archlich #87 is not listed under Permanent Creature Removal since your opponent can choose to not sacrifice a creature and let you have a 2/2 Zombie instead.
  • Inferno of the Star Mounts #151 is not listed as Permanent Creature Removal because it's very unlikely that you'll ever trigger that ability.  On the very rare instance that you have fourteen red mana, the damage will almost always be aimed at your opponent.
  • Paladin Class #29 is not listed under Off-Battlefield Removal since your opponent can choose to play most of the spells on their own turn (with some exceptions, like counterspells) if they can't pay the additional mana.
  • The Deck of Many Things #392 Extended can remove a creature card from an opponent's graveyard, but that only occurs 5% of the time you activate its ability.  And when it does, your opponent is worried about a lot more than cards being removed from their graveyard, so I didn't list it under Off-Battlefield Removal.
  • As usual, I'm not listing Planeswalker removal since there are only five Planeswalkers in the set, all at Mythic, so it will rarely come up in Limited.
  • I've not listed any dungeon cards as removal since all players have access to them if they're able to venture into a dungeon. However, some rooms do have abilities that can serve as removal (the Twisted Caverns room in Dungeon of the Mad Mage #20, and the Veils of Fear and Sandfall Cell rooms in Tomb of Annihilation #22 if your opponent's life total is low enough).
     

Permanent Creature Removal

White Portable Hole #33 Uncommon Artifact When Portable Hole enters the battlefield, exile target nonland permanent an opponent controls with mana value 2 or less until Portable Hole leaves the battlefield.
You Hear Something on Watch #42 Common Instant Choose one — • Rouse the Party — Creatures you control get +1/+1 until end of turn. • Set Off Traps — This spell deals 5 damage to target attacking creature.
Divine Smite #12 Uncommon Instant Target creature or planeswalker an opponent controls phases out. If that permanent is black, exile it instead. (If it phases out, treat it and anything attached to it as though they don't exist until its controller's next turn.)
Minimus Containment #34 Common Enchantment Enchant nonland permanent Enchanted permanent is a Treasure artifact with "{T}, Sacrifice this artifact: Add one mana of any color," and it loses all other abilities. (If it was a creature, it's no longer a creature.)
Blue Ray of Frost #68 Uncommon Enchantment Flash Enchant creature When Ray of Frost enters the battlefield, if enchanted creature is red, tap it. As long as enchanted creature is red, it loses all abilities. Enchanted creature doesn't untap during its controller's untap step.
Charmed Sleep #50 Common Enchantment Enchant creature When Charmed Sleep enters the battlefield, tap enchanted creature. Enchanted creature doesn't untap during its controller's untap step.
Mind Flayer #63 Rare Creature Dominate Monster — When Mind Flayer enters the battlefield, gain control of target creature for as long as you control Mind Flayer. 3/3
Black Sphere of Annihilation #121 Rare Artifact Sphere of Annihilation enters the battlefield with X void counters on it. At the beginning of your upkeep, exile Sphere of Annihilation, all creatures and planeswalkers with mana value less than or equal to the number of void counters on it, and all creature and planeswalker cards in all graveyards with mana value less than or equal to the number of void counters on it.
Shambling Ghast #119 Common Creature When Shambling Ghast dies, choose one — • Brave the Stench — Target creature an opponent controls gets -1/-1 until end of turn. • Search the Body — Create a Treasure token. (It's an artifact with "{T}, Sacrifice this artifact: Add one mana of any color.") 1/1
Ray of Enfeeblement #116 Uncommon Instant Target creature gets -4/-1 until end of turn. If that creature is white, it gets -4/-4 until end of turn instead.
Power Word Kill #114 Uncommon Instant Destroy target non-Angel, non-Demon, non-Devil, non-Dragon creature.
Precipitous Drop #115 Common Enchantment Enchant creature When Precipitous Drop enters the battlefield, venture into the dungeon. (Enter the first room or advance to the next room.) Enchanted creature gets -2/-2. It gets -5/-5 instead as long as you've completed a dungeon.
Grim Bounty #106 Common Sorcery Destroy target creature or planeswalker. Create a Treasure token. (It's an artifact with "{T}, Sacrifice this artifact: Add one mana of any color.")
Manticore #113 Common Creature Flash Flying Tail Spikes — When Manticore enters the battlefield, destroy target creature an opponent controls that was dealt damage this turn. 2/1
Gelatinous Cube #313 Showcase Rare Creature Engulf — When Gelatinous Cube enters the battlefield, exile target non-Ooze creature an opponent controls until Gelatinous Cube leaves the battlefield. Dissolve — {X}{B}: Put target creature card with mana value X exiled with Gelatinous Cube into its owner's graveyard. 4/3
Eyes of the Beholder #101 Common Instant Target creature gets -11/-11 until end of turn.
Black Dragon #90 Uncommon Creature Flying Acid Breath — When Black Dragon enters the battlefield, target creature an opponent controls gets -3/-3 until end of turn. 4/4
Red Meteor Swarm #155 Rare Sorcery Meteor Swarm deals 8 damage divided as you choose among X target creatures and/or planeswalkers.
Dragon's Fire #139 Common Instant As an additional cost to cast this spell, you may reveal a Dragon card from your hand or choose a Dragon you control. Dragon's Fire deals 3 damage to target creature or planeswalker. If you revealed a Dragon card or chose a Dragon as you cast this spell, Dragon's Fire deals damage equal to the power of that card or creature instead.
Burning Hands #135 Uncommon Instant Burning Hands deals 2 damage to target creature or planeswalker. If that permanent is green, Burning Hands deals 6 damage instead.
Improvised Weaponry #150 Common Sorcery Improvised Weaponry deals 2 damage to any target. Create a Treasure token. (It's an artifact with "{T}, Sacrifice this artifact: Add one mana of any color.")
Magic Missile #154 Uncommon Sorcery This spell can't be countered. Magic Missile deals 3 damage divided as you choose among one, two, or three targets.
Hobgoblin Bandit Lord #379 Extended Rare Creature Other Goblins you control get +1/+1. {R}, {T}: Hobgoblin Bandit Lord deals damage equal to the number of Goblins that entered the battlefield under your control this turn to any target. 2/3
Zariel, Archduke of Avernus #172 Mythic Planeswalker +1: Creatures you control get +1/+0 and gain haste until end of turn. 0: Create a 1/1 red Devil creature token with "When this creature dies, it deals 1 damage to any target." −6: You get an emblem with "At the end of the first combat phase on your turn, untap target creature you control. After this phase, there is an additional combat phase."
Farideh's Fireball #142 Common Instant Farideh's Fireball deals 5 damage to target creature or planeswalker. Roll a d20. 1-9 | Farideh's Fireball deals 2 damage to each player. 10-20 | Farideh's Fireball deals 2 damage to each opponent.
Tiger-Tribe Hunter #163 Uncommon Creature Trample Pack tactics — Whenever Tiger-Tribe Hunter attacks, if you attacked with creatures with total power 6 or greater this combat, you may sacrifice another creature. When you do, Tiger-Tribe Hunter deals damage equal to the sacrificed creature's power to target creature. 4/4
Earth-Cult Elemental #141 Common Creature Siege Monster — When Earth-Cult Elemental enters the battlefield, roll a d20. 1-9 | Each player sacrifices a permanent. 10-19 | Each opponent sacrifices a permanent. 20 | Each opponent sacrifices two permanents. 6/6
Green / Hunter's Mark #188 Uncommon Instant This spell costs {3} less to cast if it targets a blue permanent you don't control. This spell can't be countered. Target creature you control gets +1/+1 until end of turn. Then it deals damage equal to its power to target creature or planeswalker you don't control.
Compelled Duel #178 Common Sorcery Target creature gets +3/+3 until end of turn and must be blocked this turn if able.
Plummet #188 Common Instant Destroy target creature with flying.
Spoils of the Hunt #205 Common Instant Target creature you control gets +1/+0 until end of turn for each mana from a Treasure that was spent to cast this spell. Then that creature deals damage equal to its power to target creature an opponent controls.
Choose Your Weapon #175 Uncommon Instant Choose one — • Two-Weapon Fighting — Double target creature's power and toughness until end of turn. • Archery — This spell deals 5 damage to target creature with flying.
The Tarrasque #333 Showcase Mythic Creature The Tarrasque has haste and ward {10} as long as it was cast. Whenever The Tarrasque attacks, it fights target creature defending player controls. 10/10
Multi-Color Orcus, Prince of Undeath #229 Rare Creature Flying, trample When Orcus, Prince of Undeath enters the battlefield, choose one — • Each other creature gets -X/-X until end of turn. You lose X life. • Return up to X target creature cards with total mana value X or less from your graveyard to the battlefield. They gain haste until end of turn. 5/3
Fighter Class #222 Rare Enchantment (Gain the next level as a sorcery to add its ability.) When Fighter Class enters the battlefield, search your library for an Equipment card, reveal it, put it into your hand, then shuffle. {1}{R}{W}: Level 2 Equip abilities you activate cost {2} less to activate. {3}{R}{W}: Level 3 Whenever a creature you control attacks, up to one target creature blocks it this combat if able.
Shessra, Death's Whisper #345 Showcase Uncommon Creature Bewitching Whispers — When Shessra, Death's Whisper enters the battlefield, target creature blocks this turn if able. Whispers of the Grave — At the beginning of your end step, if a creature died this turn, you may pay 2 life. If you do, draw a card. 1/3

Check for Traps #92 Uncommon Sorcery Target opponent reveals their hand. You. choose a nonland card from it. Exile that card. If an instant or a card with flash is exiled this way, they lose 1 life. Otherwise, you lose 1 life.
Demogorgon's Clutches #96 Uncommon Sorcery Target opponent discards two cards, mills two cards, and loses 2 life. (To mill a card, a player puts the top card of their library into their graveyard.)
Green Froghemoth #184 Rare Creature Trample, haste Whenever Froghemoth deals combat damage to a player, exile up to that many target cards from their graveyard. Put a +1/+1 counter on Froghemoth for each creature exiled this way. You gain 1 life for each noncreature card exiled this way. 4/4
