Deck Primer / Description
This is a fun, casual deck. It does have counterspells but they are only for self defense, like Turn Aside. It is technically a Bracket 3, but that is only because of Urza, Lord High Artificer.
Urza only exists so the thopters and other artifacts can tap for , and isn't integral to the deck. There are no orbs or infinite combos you can abuse. You can remove Urza and replace him with a land or mana rock to make the deck Bracket 2, which is how it plays even with Urza included.
This deck is designed to churn out thopter tokens, mostly so you can attack with a thopter swarm. But they sometimes have other uses, like being tapped for mana, sacrifieced for value, and even to win the game with cards like Mechanized Production.
The deck is designed to work with any one of the included legendary blue creatures as your commander. Padeem, Consul of Innovation has proven to be one of the most effective commanders, so I used him as the example. Some are more effective than others. Urza, Lord High Artificer is by far the strongest commander, and the Constructs he generates can often enter with at +4/+4 easily early game. Sai, Master Thopterist is excellent in this deck and alway puts in work. Cynette, Jelly Drover and Mu Yanling, Wind Rider are usually on the weaker end, but can pop-off if you're able to attack regularly with your thopters. Leonardo da Vinci was the original planned commander, but has proven to be one of the weakest from the command zone. I recently added The Reality Chip and I'm excited to try it out. Before the game starts, I ask one of my opponents to roll a die to determine which commander I'll use. I (usually) announce that Urza is in the deck, and if anyone has an issue and doesn't want to play against Urza, I'll replace him, usually with a card like Darksteel Ingot.
I'm looking for ways to improve the deck, especially when it comes to the mana situation. There's not much ramp available in mono-blue, so if I'm not drawing lands it can be a serious problem. Let me know if you have suggestions to improve it.
