Deck Primer / Description
Angels are super cool, so we want to make a lot of them, and we want to get the big ones out.
I was inspired by Serra the Benevolent, and wanted to use a Serra commander. Radiant, Serra Archangel is basically the only choice, and the ability to tap creatures for a benefit was a jumping off point for thinking about the deck construction. But when I saw Devout Invocation and imagined a full battlefield of soldiers kneeling down to summon a host of angels, I got chills.
So the idea is for Wand of the Worldsoul, Peri Brown, or We Ride at Dawn to allow us to convoke out the big legendary creatures that don't come with convoke already. We have a fair amount of ramp and effects that reduce the cost of our Angel spells.
Angels are the win-con, either through getting some huge ones down or by generating lots of angel tokens. Everything else is meant to support these goals, either by generating Soldier tokens for convoking (or replacing with Divine Visitation), and all the usual removal/protection/card draw to make the pile function.
At some point, I made the decision to essentially cut all combat tricks in order to make room for everything. There is a fair amount of protection and removal in the deck anyway, so I thought it was something that could be removed without too much loss, but we'll see how that plays. There's also a tiny bit of graveyard recursion in case something truly important to the game plan dies (especially one of the methods for gaining convoke).
Finally, Radiant has Partner, and I think that Akroma, Vision of Ixidor is probably the best one for the deck. There's some effort to either choose creatures with keywords or give creatures keywords in order to make the most of her power. In practice, she'll probably end up getting cast before Radiant!
