This or That Magic: Beards or Hats?

Welcome to the fourth episode of This or That Magic, the series where we answer life's most important questions the best way we know how: with a game of Magic! We're nearing the holiday season, which means that, at least here in New York, it's getting pretty cold outside, so this week we are trying to figure out the best way to keep our heads warm: beard or hat? Of course, I'm representing the beard side of the battle for obvious reasons, while Tomer will be topping off our battle with hats. Which is the right choice for going out in the cold? Let's see!

The Decks

As much as it pains me to say it, it looks like we have a pretty clear winner this week, with Hats taking a 2-0 win over Beards, aided by a major backfire in the bearded combo of Biovisionary and Mirrorweave. I was surprised to learn that not only were there enough Hats for Tomer to build a singleton deck but a very strong Human tribal deck as well. Meanwhile, the Beard deck was a bit more scattered, and apart from the (super janky) instant-win combo, a lot of the bearded creatures in Magic are a bit underpowered and overpriced. I also had a slight flavor fail, putting the wrong version of Sword to Plowshares in the deck by mistake, but otherwise I think both decks were pretty on flavor. Of course, we want to know what you think: which deck was more on-point flavor-wise, Tomer's Hats or Seth's Beards?

Conclusion

Anyway, that's all for today. We'll be back in a couple of weeks with another episode of This or That Magic! As always, leave your thoughts, ideas, opinions, and suggestions in the comments, and you can reach me on Twitter @SaffronOlive (and Tomer @BudgetCommander), or at SaffronOlive@MTGGoldfish.com.
