Commander Clash S5 E22: Ultimate Masters! (Gaddock vs. Kozilek vs. Sigarda vs. Tasigur)

Welcome back to Commander Clash! This week we're celebrating the release of Ultimate Masters by building decks around the legendary creatures reprinted in the set. Due to scheduling conflicts Vince couldn't make this video, so Tom took his seat for the episode. Here's what we brought:

  • Richard demands that you respect the Kithkin, trying to score a win for the tribe this time with Gaddock Teeg
  • Seth plays something way out of his comfort zone, actually casting his commander and being aggressive with Sigarda, Host of Herons
  • Tom dredges through his graveyard, picking out sweet value to drop back on to the battlefield with the help of Tasigur, the Golden Fang
  • Tomer plays a Colorless deck looking to ramp hard to cast giant finishers like Kozilek, Butcher of Truth

Which UMA commander will emerge victorious? Let's find out! But first, a quick reminder: if you like Commander Clash. and other video content here on MTGGoldfish, make sure to subscribe to the MTGGoldfish Youtube Channel to keep up with the latest and greatest.

Post-Game Thoughts

The idea of my deck is to ramp a ton so I can get out my heavy hitters quickly. Casting Kozilek, Butcher of Truth helps refill my hand anyway, as do Kozilek, the Great Distortion and Sandstone Oracle. I was running 23 ramp cards, not including flip cards Thaumatic Compass and Treasure Map, or lands that tap for extra mana like Ancient Tomb and Eldrazi Temple. So it was quite disappointing that my deck failed to actually cast anything due to mana screw.

Despite feeling unlucky, I don't think I'd bring back Kozilek for a revenge week. I don't think being annihilated by a turn 5-6 Eldrazi titan would be enjoyable for people at the table, which is what happens if my deck performs properly. In this case I'm okay with this deck failing and being shelved forever.

Next Week: Competitive Commander!

The second most requested theme we get is to do more Competitive Commander, where we set aside our house bans and play the most cutthroat, high-powered, expensive decks possible. We aim to do at least one per season, and the time is now! I was ready to play a competitive version of Niv-Mizzet, Parun, but then I goofed hard and missed the recording, oops. Luckily Crim saved the day and took my spot and I heard the episode turned out well, so I'm excited to see how it turned out!
