Much Abrew: Proft's Eidetic Memory (Explorer)
Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Much Abrew About Nothing! In Magic, there's nothing better than drawing a ton of cards, which makes today's deck the perfect deck for me: Proft's Eidetic Memory! The idea of the deck is pretty simple: play our namesake enchantment which rewards us with +1/+1 counters for drawing extra cards, draw as many extra cards as possible and build a massive, evasive threat to kill our opponent in just a couple of massive attacks! Is it really possible to win just by drawing cards? How good is Proft's Eidetic Memory? Let's get to the video and find out!

- Record wise, Proft's Eidetic Memory was surprising strong. After going 6-2 while recording the video I kept playing the deck because it's so much fun and ended up hitting mythic with it with a 62% win rate!
- While the deck looks a bit janky in paper, it plays shockingly well, at least in games when we have Proft's Eidetic Memory. In general our creatures are pretty under powered, but they all draw us extra cards, which means with our namesake enchantment on the battlefield it's pretty easy to make them massive quickly. Take Steamcore Scholar - our best threat - for example. If we play Memory on turn two we can play Scholar on turn three, double loot and immediately grow it to a 4/4 flying, vigilance - essentially a three-mana Serra Angel. Then the next turn its pretty possible that we can use Treasure Cruise and other card draw effects to get it up to a 9/9 or 10/10, which is a super scary threat in Pioneer! While not quite as strong, we can essentially do the same thing with Ledger Shredder or even Evangel of Synthesis. Basically,, even though our creatures start off small thanks to Proft's Eidetic Memory they get big super quick!
- My one criticism of the deck is that it could use more answers to Sheoldred, the Apocalypse, which is one of the hardest cards for our deck to beat since it's so good at punishing card draw, which is all our deck really does. Our deck is pretty bad at triggering revolt on Fatal Push so we really only have two consistent main deck answers to Sheoldred and two more Blot Outs in the sideboard. This might be as simple as changing our manabase by adding Fabled Passage so we can consistently trigger revolt when we need it, although adding a bit more unconditional removal probably wouldn't hurt either.
- So should you play Proft's Eidetic Memory in Pioneer/Explorer? I think the answer is an easy yet! When I keep playing a deck after I finish recording a video it's usually a pretty good sign that I find the deck fun to play and I'm still playing this one! It's way more competitive than I expected and with a few more answers to bigger creatures like Sheoldred it could be a real threat in Pioneer! If you like drawing cards and using those cards to turn small, janky creatures into massive threats, this just might be the deck for you!
